Capt. Art Smith has fished the
waters around Destin Florida for over 20 years. He also
spent a lot of time exploring under the sea as a Master
S.C.U.B.A. Diving Instructor for the past 35 years not
only along the Emerald Coast but all over the world.
So you might say he knows where the fish live. He takes
pride knowing that he can guarantee that he can place
you above the fish. Captain Art has been the Master
of this 48 foot custom built charter boat with a walk
around deck and a 20x17 foot fishing cock pit, for over
ten years. When you board the Miss Nautica you are not
just a customer you become part of the crew. Once you
are part of the crew, you become one of the family who
is always welcome and taken well care of.
Your First Mate works hard for
you starting her day well before day break preparing
for your day of fun and adventure by cleaning the boat,
getting your ice, and cutting your bait. When you arrive
she will give you a tour of the boat and point out all
of the safety equipment. She will help you stow your
gear and prepare to make way.
As the crew leaves the Destin Harbor not
only will she point out some of the historic sites but
she will also give a brief description of the gear and
tackle you will be using for the day. The first mate
will also explain the importance of using live bait
which you can either catch or if you wish to save time
purchase for $20.00 per scoop.
On the journey heading out to the fishing
grounds she will continue maintaining the boat and may
tell you a few of her great adventures at sea and a
few of the great catches she has helped bring aboard.
When the crew arrives at the first stop the first mate
is there to assist you and if needed will teach you
the fine science of fishing.
When the vessel returns to the dock she
will hang your fish and assist you in taking photos
of your catch, so don’t forget your camera. If you would
prefer, she can arrange for them to be taken professionally
by one of our local photographers, just let us know
in advance. The first mate will then cut and bag your
catch of the day and proceed in cleaning the boat for
tomorrow’s trip.
Your Mate works for Gratuity and it is
customary to give him 20% for a job well done.
